Guidance: The slides give an overview of the key points of correlational studies. 
The accompanying Excel spreadsheet can be used to display correlational data that 
is captured direct from the class.

Stress and illness
------------------
I use a basic stress q'aire (can't put it up as it's copyright).  Get students to complete and also 
to state how many days they've missed sick this term/year etc.  Enter data and get students to plot
their own scatterplots.  Display the chart for comparison with theirs and discussion.

Quite often produces a weak correlation if any, so an additional data set included with a 
clearer positive correlation.

Failure to find a correlation can lead to interesting discussion e.g. self reports as a measure of 
illness.

Absence and Final Marks

These are cooked data, but intended to give a subtle message, besides showing the students what 
a negative correlation looks like.  Make 'em plot this one too: it's good for the soul.
