---------------------- www.psychlotron.org.uk ---------------------- Name of resource: treatments for eating disorders - better AO1 descriptions Submitted by: Aidan Sammons Specification details: AQA-B Other spec: AQA-A possibly Details: activity aimed at getting students to write better descriptions of treatments in AQA-B module 4 atypical. In my experience they tend to give generic descriptions of treatments which don't properly address the requirement to describe different types of treatment _for_ particular disorders. Students are given two descriptions of psychodynamic treatments and invited to consider which is better & why. Things they should pick up on include: Listing therapeutic techniques vs. explaining what they involve. Linking techniques used to the symptoms they are intended to treat. Explaining why/how the techniques work. They are then given four further descriptions (behavioural & cognitive; anorexia & bulimia) and invited to use the insights they have obtained to rewrite them so as to get a better mark. NB: AQA-B candidates do not need to know about psychodynamic treatments for EDs - these are given simply as an example. Make sure your students know the exact requirements for the spec they are following.
